Hopefully this has inspired you to want to contribue to a giveaway event. It just so happens I am running one! Olympic Giveaway runs during the Beijing Olympics from Friday 8th August to Sunday 24th August 2008. Here’s the link to sign up as a contributor:
If your not sure what a giveaway event is, or why you would want to be involved in one here is a quick(ish) overview:
What happens at a giveaway event is that a whole load of marketers get together and offer you free gifts. Now, sad as
it may seem they are not just doing this out of the goodness of there hearts! If you request a free gift from one of the
marketers you will have to supply your name and email address to them and it will be added to their email list.
Each marketer is required to promote the event to their own lists. So lets say for example 100 marketers join an event and
each one has on average a list of 1000 (both values pretty conservative). That would mean 100,000 people would get to
hear about the event. Of that 100,000 say only 10% actually visit the giveaway. That’s 10,000 people looking at the free
gifts offered by the marketers and potentially being added to their lists! And as every one knows “The money is in the list”
Hopefully this shows you why you should want to be involved in Olympic Giveaway. It will help you to grow your list and in
turn your income.
Every marketer involved in a giveaway event is required to promote it (that’s only fair after all!). So if you don’t have
a list already this could be a bit of problem but there are other ways to promote a giveaway event. Here are a few:
Safelists
Traffic Exchanges
Text Ad Exchanges
VirulURL, List Effects etc
A post on your blog
Forum post signatures
MySpace, Facebook, Twitter etc
I’m sure you could think of some more. The thing is , you only have to worry about this once, because after your
first giveaway event you’ll have a list you can promote to. So for any future giveaway events it’s not a problem. This can be
a great way to kick start you list building.
You need to have some sort of gift to give away that people will want. You need a squeeze page to collect name and email
addresses and you will need an account with an autoresponder service. That’s it really.
I will be putting together some videos to show you the whole process of setting up your gift, squeeze page, autoresponder
and ways to promote Olympic Giveaway over the coming weeks leading up to the launch on Friday 8th August.
If you’ve got a list, this will be a great way to increase it’s size and if you haven’t got a list you really should! So this is a great way to start.
Over on the right hand side of this blog you will see some ads that look a little like Adsense – but there not, it’s a new network called GadetSpots. Unlike Adsense you don’t get paid for people clicking on the GadgetSpot ads themselves. At the bottom of the ad block you can see a link saying GadgetSpots place Your Ad Here, that is an affiliate link. For anyone who signs up to become a paid subscriber of GadgetSpots through that link I recieve $6 a month on the first tier and $3 a month on the second.
The other great benefit is that you can add your own ads to the GadgetSpot network. This is where you have to decide if you want to become a free member or subscribed member. 75% of the ads displayed across the network are from the subscribed members and the free members share the other 25%. At the time of writing 20% of sign ups are subscribed members and the other 80% are free members, so this means that 80% of the ads are shown across only 25% of the network while the subscribed members 20% of ads are getting shown across 75% of the network. So you can see the advantages of being a subscribed member.
Unlike Adsense your ads can contain affiliate links (but not for GadetSpots itself), which I think will attract a lot of people in itself. The actual Gadgets (the name for the ad blocks) can be placed on any sites you like except adult ones and the gadgets can be tailored in size and colour to suite your site.
I’m going to be adding gadgets to more of my sites along with ads to the network and I’ll be monitoring progress of both sign ups through the affliate link and click throughs on my ads in the GadgetSpot network.
I’ll be heading off to the London Lunch again in a weeks time. I’m looking forward to it as I had to miss the last one. It’ll be interesting to see how many faces I recognize from the one I went to before Christmas. I know Phil Wiley wont be there as he’s back in Australia now, obviously Martin Avis will be there as he organises it. There were so many people at the last one I never actually had a chat with Martin, I will make sure to remedy that this time!
I attended the London Lunch on Friday. It’s organised by Martin Avis who produces the ezine Kickstart Today. As I understand it, they’ve been happening for a number of years now but this is the first one I’ve attended.
It’s called the London Lunch but in fact we were stayed in the restaurant through lunch and well into the evening. There were quite a few people I recognised either from forums or I’ve come across their on-line activities including Robert Puddy, Phil Wiley and Harvey Segal.
It was a nice chance to be able to talk about on-line marketing to other people who understand what your talking about. So often when explaining what I’m trying to achieve on-line to my friends and family I get at best a blank expression or at worst discouragement.
I definitely intended on going to future London Lunches so if you’d like to meet me in the flesh he’s your chance! This is the website to sign up for notifications of the next London Lunch: www.london-lunch.com
